The response of children to God’s love is often spontaneous – evidence of an innate spirituality that can be missed because of a lack of language skills or vocabulary to describe their sense of the other. Those of us grown-ups who have the language ability are often outpaced by the experience of our young people because we have been conditioned by our up-bringing to suppress - even disregard - our own inherent spirituality. Rediscovering our own spirituality – that discipleship is possible at any age – is key to recognising and encouraging it in the children and young people we serve.
