Every church in the Diocese of Canterbury is invited to take a simple step towards a sustainable future by completing the Church of England’s Energy Footprint Tool (EFT), which launched on Monday 12 January.
Churches’ data helps to build a clearer picture of our collective carbon use. By measuring energy consumption, churches can make wise, targeted decisions to reduce their carbon footprint, highlight areas where energy is wasted, and potentially lower energy costs.
Completing the EFT is a crucial act of caring for God’s people and creation, reflecting our commitment to stewardship, discipleship, and love for our neighbours.
Net Zero Programmes Manager for the Canterbury and Rochester Dioceses, Catriona Jamieson, said: “We are so grateful that 88% of churches took the time to complete this tool last year; it has really helped our team to plan and target our resources effectively.
“We hope to increase the number of churches completing this year and are here to support with any questions or challenges you may have."
Anyone with access to church energy bills - whether treasurer, churchwarden, or administrator - can complete the tool. Submissions help shape how national net zero funding is allocated and is important for parishes seeking access to grants and support.
You can complete the Energy Footprint Tool today: Parish Returns Online. This must be done by 30 June 2026.
Sign-up for a webinar with Alyne Godfrey (Net Zero Adviser) who will walk through the EFT process and answer any questions you have on Thursday 29 January at 7pm. Energy Footprint Tool | Meeting-Join | Microsoft Teams
If you would prefer to complete the EFT on paper before inputting online you can download a paper copy here.
