The Minister of State for the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has confirmed that the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme has been extended until at least 2025/2026.
Church projects with a cost of over £1,000 can be entitled to claim back the 20% VAT, but a new limit means that the maximum amount a church can claim back across their projects is £25,000.
The extension shows that listed places of worship are a key part of UK heritage, bringing members of the community together.
Talking about the extension, DAC secretary in our diocese Kevin Tucker said: “I welcome the announcement that this grant scheme has been extended.
“We have a wonderful and diverse range of listed churches in our diocese, and I am sure many will be able to benefit from this scheme.”
Almost £350 million has already been given out under the scheme, with a further £23 million expected to be handed out with the extension
Speaking after the announcement, Heritage Minister Sir Chris Bryant said in a government press release: “There are many reasons to care for our faith buildings. They matter to faith communities, they provide a range of vital services to the public regardless of faith or background and many of them are architecturally stunning. I am delighted that despite the tough fiscal challenges we face, we are able to keep this scheme going for a further year to support faith buildings in every part of the country.”
Churches in our diocese wanting to apply for the scheme can do so on the government website.
