Media training resources

Effective communication and engagement is key for a church to connect with its members and the wider community, and there are a number of resources to help you with this.

One way of gaining media attention to highlight the good news stories in your church is to write a press release. This is a written communication where you want to give a brief summary of your story. Imagine that it is a movie trailer - you want a journalist to be interested in finding out more about your story without making it too long. You can read this guide to writing a press release to help you with it.

AChurchNearYou.com is the Church of England’s tool for finding local churches that offer the features and facilities you might be looking for, such as foodbanks, wheelchair access or a spire. You can also use it as your own church's website. Find out how, and more useful tips with these AChurchNearYou explainer videos.

Social media can be a great asset to share about events in your church, as well as get people to engage with your services. Use this guide for creating and administrating a church social media account to help you begin your church's journey on social media.

Canva.com is an easy-to-use design tool, created for people without any design experience in mind. It can be used to create social media posts, presentations, and much more. Canva offer a free, non-profit account which churches are eligible to apply for. This type of account provides you with all the ‘pro’ features on Canva. These features include unlimited access to templates and image libraries. Find out how to apply for a free Canva Pro account for your church and watch these Canva video guides to get you started.
