Bishop Rose releases her memoir

Bishop Rose in conversation with Bonnie Greer OBE

The Rt Revd Rose Hudson-Wilkin has released her memoir 'The Girl from Montego Bay', an autobiography of Britain's first black woman bishop.

Ahead of the publication of her book, Bishop Rose was joined in a Q&A by playwright and novelist Bonnie Greer OBE. The pair spoke about Bishop Rose’s calling to ministry and what made her decide to write a memoir.

In the book Bishop Rose shares some of her childhood joy of growing up in Montego Bay, Jamaica, as well as the challenges of abuse she experienced as a child. The autobiography also speaks of the places, rooms and tables Bishop Rose has had the opportunity to be present at and the people that she has met and served, from politicians to royalty.

Speaking about her memoir, Bishop Rose said: “In sharing my story of ‘The Girl from Montego Bay’, I hope that those reading it may marvel at the deep faith in God that has sustained me, my belief in a God who has loved me and has been the one constant thing deep inside which has filled me with confidence, resilience and enabled me to thrive.”
