October is Black History Month, and there are a number of events happening across our diocese, in addition to resources available to use.
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievement and recognition of the contribution of black people across British economy, culture and history.
You can access Black History Month liturgical resources from the Church of England here, including material for prayers, services, school assemblies, messy church and bible studies.
There will be a chance to find out more about Bishop Rose as she preaches and takes part in Desert Island Discs at Seasalter Christian Centre on Sunday 29 October 2023 from 12:30pm - 2:00pm.
She will be choosing eight discs, a book and a luxury item to take with her as if cast away on a mythical desert island, and will give her reasoning behind each item.
Bishop Rose will talk about key moments in her life, as well as the people and events that have influenced her. You can book your place here.
Seasalter Christian Centre will also be hosting Saturday Nights at the Movies, with films including Space Jam and Hidden Figures on Saturday 7 and 21 October respectively. To book, email Claude.
We'd love to hear from you if you are hosting an event for Black History Month. Make sure to tag us in your social media posts.
Talking about Black History Month in our diocese, Bishop's Adviser for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Affairs Revd Beatrice Musindi said: “It is great to see what has been planned across our diocese to mark Black History Month, and I look forward to seeing how these resources are used.”
