On Tuesday 4 February, St Nicholas CE Primary Academy celebrated a joyous occasion as 18 pupils were confirmed by Bishop Rose Hudson-Wilkin at St Nicholas Church, New Romney. This was the third year of confirmations held at the church, with over 60 children and adults being confirmed by Bishop Rose during that time.
The confirmation service was a significant milestone in the faith journeys of the young pupils.
Headteacher of St Nicholas CE Primary Academy, Christopher Dale said: "It was a true delight to see the joy shared by the candidates as they affirmed their faith with Bishop Rose and their families."
In a confirmation service, the local bishop will lay their hands on your head and ask God’s Holy Spirit to give you the strength and commitment to live God’s way for the rest of your life.
Bishop Rose spoke during the service of her hope for the future, saying, "I look forward to a time when we have priests and Bishops come forward from these candidates."
Confirmation is a special church service in which a person confirms the promises that were made when they were baptized. If you were baptized at a christening when you were a child, your parents and godparents made these promises on your behalf. As a young person or adult, you may be ready to affirm these promises for yourself and commit your life to following Jesus Christ.
The first step to being confirmed is to talk to your local vicar. When you speak to your vicar, they will usually invite you to a few meetings to help you get ready for the service. This is a good way to explore your faith with others who are also thinking about confirmation and is a safe place to ask any questions you have about God, Jesus and the journey of faith.
