A band of more than 70 volunteers from around Shepway joined the Ignite team from St Martin’s Church to spring clean the estate.

Local residents both young and old joined in to collect 65 sacks of litter, weighing in at 320kg.

Ignite Enabler Andrew Edwards said: “The day was amazing and showed the strong community spirit that exists in Shepway. It was great that so many people wanted to join in and help improve the environment on the estate.

“For us at St Martin’s it was a really good way to meet people and get to know our friends and neighbours more. We also had great support from Shepway Chariots too.”

Ignite is a cafe style church gathering that works to bring people together and draw strength from each other. Ignite groups run in areas with communities that are moved to come together to face difficult challenges in changing times.

Ignite at St Martin’s next event is the Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday 20 April.
