Associate Priest (Interim)

St Paul’s Cliftonville with Holy Trinity Margate are seeking a full time Associate Minister to join the Margate Church team.

Working closely with the PCC and Priest in Charge, the candidate will have a primary responsibility and focus on developing the life and ministry of St Paul’s Cliftonville, sat on a busy high street experiencing much change and challenge. The community has a thriving social renewal ministry running throughout the week both in the St Paul’s community centre and in the Church and is a beacon of hope within Thanet.

The parish is uniquely positioned to support individuals and families facing extreme need. Recent parish statistics show some of the challenge and opportunity for ministry in that place. The surrounding area is also undergoing significant development. Recent years have identified the urgent need for the Church buildings to be renovated. The candidate must carry a heart and awareness of the marginalised and vulnerable, be bold in sharing the good news of Jesus and adapt in leading community through change.

They will also provide leadership to a wider context, as the Church is a key part of a new designated resource Church. Our vision is that Jesus, the way, the truth, the life will impact everyone in Margate, Thanet and the South East. A resource church is defined as one that grows to a significant size and goes on to resource other churches in its area. This is in essence a recovery of the ancient model of the missional ‘minster’ church, in that it has a specific mandate and designation to grow a centre of missional energy and service for the benefit of the wider church. The candidate will need to have a willingness to work with the Priest in Charge on a number of areas and be flexible to serve as needed in pursuit of a wider mandate. Rev’d Mark Nelson will be the Priest in charge of this initiative, having previously served as the Associate Rector of another resource church in East London called SAINT.
